FAQs

I know you might have a lot of questions especially if this is your first time doing a photo shoot. But here are some FAQs that may answer some of your questions. Please contact me if you have questions not answered here!

1. What is your style?
Every photographer has a style. It’s like a signature. My style is natural and authentic. I focus less on having the perfect pose, but instead photograph people when they are at ease. I believe this allows your true personality to shine through. Only then can you create images that bring out real emotions and happiness. Natural does not mean completely candid though. I do pose my subjects to flatter their shape and best features and to create harmonious compositions. I re-touch every image by hand and my editing style is clean and crisp. I pay attention to every detail and that results in a very polished end product.

2. What kind of lighting do you use?
You may have heard of photographers advertising natural light photography, this is using the sun as the main source of light. While I love natural light, I am passionate about using a blend of ambient light and strobes (this is off-camera flash). The strobe light complements the natural light and also gives my subjects a “kiss” of light to make them really pop out from the background. Other photographers may not use strobe lighting for many reasons including cost, ease, flexibility, or it’s just not part of their style. But for me the use of this lighting gives my photographs a consistent and unique look. For indoor studio shoots, I use multiple lights to create a beautiful balance of light and shadows complemented with perfect posing to suit the mood or theme.

3. What can I expect during a session with you?
I like to get to know the people who I photograph so that I can tailor the experience to them. I treat my clients like I would my family. Before any session, I first consult with you on your vision. If the photo shoot will be at your home or location of your choice, I will visit the location before the shoot so I can check out the lighting and potential backgrounds to use. I then work with you suggesting poses, backgrounds, props, and outfit choices. During the photo shoot I try to keep everything low key and easy going. I go with the flow which is especially important when working with young children. Family sessions take about 1-2 hours.

4. What to wear for a photo shoot? How about makeup?
Clothes with solid colors often work better than clothes with busy prints, large logos, and printed words. These tend to draw the viewer’s attention away from the subject’s face. Wear colors that complement your eye color to make the eyes stand out. For family sessions, it is not necessary for everyone to match exactly the same style and color. But if everyone’s clothes contain a similar color or color palette, then it makes for a more unified look. Jackets are a nice option; you can wear it or throw it over your shoulder to quickly change up your look. Choose clothes that fit your body well, pressed if needed, and most of all make you feel comfortable. In terms of makeup, choose matte products and avoid shimmery or glittery products as they can make your face look shinier. The same goes for products containing SPF sunblock.

5. What kind of packages do you offer for family sessions?
I offer high resolution files. The packages available are:

(1) 10 files
(2) 20 files
(3) All. This means all of the images that I think are the best, typically between 30-40 images.

You don’t have to choose the package you want until after you view your proofs. I also offer print services.

6. I’m so excited! How and when will I see my photos?
After the photo shoot with you, I go to work culling and editing the photos. I fully process my work before I show any images to you because you deserve the best! About 1-2 weeks after your session, I will send you an email with instructions to view your proofs in your private online gallery. After you choose the images that you love, I will do the final edits on the images. You will receive a link to a shared drive to upload high resolution files of your images that you can use to print. In addition, I make smaller files of the images that are optimized for the web so that you can share your pictures with all your friends and family online.

7. Can I get prints of my photos?
While digital files are how most people share their photos these days, nothing compares to having a physical print in your hands. Framed prints whether on your wall or on your desk are a daily reminder of those we love. I provide print services to meet your custom needs.
