A session built around your family

Before we book, I’ll ask what you have in mind. If you’ve got a spot you love — your backyard, the arboretum, your kids’ favorite park — I’ll plan around it and scout it ahead of time. If you’d rather talk it through together, I’ll bring ideas and we’ll land on something that fits your family. And if you’d rather I just take the lead, I will, based on what you tell me beforehand.

I work with kids who don’t want to sit still, multigenerational groups, and everything in between. You’ll see the photos as we go, so by the time we wrap up you already know we got the shot — no surprises when the gallery arrives.

I work with families all over Northborough, Southborough, Shrewsbury, Marlborough, and surrounding towns in MetroWest and Central Massachusetts.

Fall books up fast, especially October weekends.

How it Works

Two young South Asian girls sitting under an umbrella, family portrait session in Northborough, MA.

Step 1

Pre-Planning

We start with a real conversation.

We chat about your vision for the photos, your children’s personalities, what family games you like to play, etc. We decide on a location that is meaningful to you or a location I’ve pre-scouted. I will also provide wardrobe styling recommendations.

Step 2

Photoshoot Day

Relaxed, guided, and fun.

We meet and walk to a few locations while I guide you into simple poses. Plenty of laughing and playing helps everyone feel at ease. I show you images on the back of my camera as we go, so we can adjust in real time. I blend artificial and natural light to get the best light on you, whatever the weather is doing.

Step 3

Editing & Delivery

The best, most authentic you.

I carefully curate and retouch your images to showcase the best but authentic version of you and your family. Within 2-3 weeks, you’ll get a private online gallery to review. Then I deliver the final retouched images to an online site where you can download them.

What Families Say

“She was so friendly and professional!”

Emma took our family photos this fall, and she was so friendly and professional! She had all kinds of equipment to help produce the best pictures, and our proofs alone before edits were unbelievably beautiful with amazing resolution. She was even able to use photoshop magic to have our baby girl looking forward instead of off to the side (which any parent can appreciate)! I would highly recommend her for any photoshoots you want to do, and absolutely would ask her to take our photos again in the future!

“Love her!”

Love her! We had our first family photo shoot with a fidgety 3 year old and the pictures came out much better than I expected. I appreciated how easy and quickly she responded to our requests and gave us a lot of good tips for doing a photo session for the first time. She’s very easy to work with and very friendly. Highly recommend her for any photo needs!

“The photos far exceeded all my expectations!”

Emma has photographed our family in two occasions, and both have been wonderful experiences! The photos far exceeded all my expectations! Just when I think there cannot be any more beautiful pictures of my family, she manages to capture them! She is very knowledgeable, professional and friendly. Emma is always prepared with a lot of suggestions, but she is also mindful to ask what we want. Obviously, we always go with her suggestions! 😊 You will always have her full attention during the session, and she makes you feel very comfortable. Emma definitely captures the best essence of every person she is photographing. I can’t wait to have her photograph our family again in a couple of years! I highly recommend Emma for any occasion or event. Five stars!

Where are family portrait sessions held?

Sessions are held indoors or outdoors at a location that is meaningful to your family — a park, a garden, or even your home and backyard — in Northborough, MA and the surrounding MetroWest area.

How long does a family session take?

Family sessions typically run 60-90 minutes, depending on family size and the number of breaks the littlest ones need. I let the mood and energy level of the youngest family member guide me because everything is more fun when they are having fun! But I do recommend that children are fed and well-rested before the shoot (same goes for older children and parents too!) And make sure to bring some non-sticky/staining snacks and water to fuel up on during breaks.

What if the weather is not cooperating?

I monitor the forecast and will reach out in advance if weather looks like an issue. Sessions are rescheduled at no charge for weather.
